Ex-aides to Wisconsin governor charged with illegal fundraising (Reuters)

MADISON, Wisconsin (Reuters) ? Two former aides to Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker during his term as the top elected official in Milwaukee County have been charged with political fundraising on public time, the Milwaukee County district attorney said on Thursday.

The charges were the latest in an investigation of staffers surrounding the first-term Republican governor, who could be forced to defend his seat in a recall election after opponents gathered more than 1 million signatures to support a recall.

Kelly Rindfleisch, 43, who was a deputy chief of staff for Walker while he served as county executive, has been charged with four felonies of misconduct in public office, according to District Attorney John Chisholm's office.

Rindfleisch was accused of spending significant time raising funds for a former state representative who was a candidate for lieutenant governor of Wisconsin, prosecutors said.

The investigation found that a private email network was set up and run out of the county executive's office to communicate political campaign and government-related information to "select individuals," Chisholm's office said in a statement.

Darlene Wink, 62, was charged with two misdemeanor counts of political solicitation for engaging in fundraising for Walker while in a county building and using county equipment, prosecutors said.

Dish Network Hopper DVR and Joey extender hands-on

The 2TB HD DVR, Hopper, that can record up to six shows at once looks like any other set-top box we've ever seen with the regular suspects in back. The Joey extender on the other hand, looks more like a SD digital TV adapter than a HD extender set-top and can easily be mounted to the back of a TV and connect to the Hopper via coax instead of requiring a network drop. The RF remote looks the same as Dish customers are accustomed to, but this one works with ZigBee. The boxes weren't connected but the presentation showed screen shots that reminded us of the VIP 922.

Late spurt lifts Rose and Bulls over Magic, 97-83

(AP) ? At times last season the Chicago Bulls were guilty of leaning on MVP point guard Derrick Rose too much to help them pull out wins in close games.

If the way they closed out Friday night's 97-83 victory over Orlando is any indication, coach Tom Thibodeau's team is well on the way to fixing that problem.

Rose and Luol Deng each scored 21 points and Chicago held off a fourth-quarter surge by the Magic for its sixth straight victory.

Carlos Boozer added 20 points for Chicago, which led by as many as 17 before the lead was trimmed to three. The Bulls closed the game on a 17-6 run and hung on despite getting just four points from Rose in the final 12 minutes.

"Anything to win," Rose said. "That was the whole mindset. Just try to get out aggressive. Try to get guys going early. That was the whole game plan."

Thibodeau said he liked the way Rose adjusted when the Magic tried to clamp down on him in the second half.

"He's got a quick array of shots and he knows what he has to do," Thibodeau said. "When he needed to score, he scored. He did a really great job of playmaking."

Dwight Howard led the Magic with 28 points and 15 rebounds, and Jason Richardson broke out of scoring slump with 17. But Ryan Anderson, who coach Stan Van Gundy said "just didn't get in the battle" against the Bulls and had been leading the team in scoring, went cold, along with the Magic's reserves.

Van Gundy said the Magic, who were playing their first playoff opponent from last season since their season-opening loss at Oklahoma City, aren't ready to compete with that caliber of team right now.

"Quite simply we're not at that level. Not close," he said. "And that's OK; I'm not saying that crying or complaining. That's just the way it is. You've got to face reality. We've got to put in the work to reach that level, because right now we're not close to that level of play."

The Bulls (7-1) are off to their best start since winning 12 of 13 to open the 1996-97 season. The latest victory began a brutal stretch for Chicago that includes seven games in nine nights.

Orlando (5-3) lost at home for the first time this season.

Rose went through some scoring lulls but kept Chicago's offense on schedule, handing out 10 assists and coming within two rebounds of a triple-double.

The Bulls dominated inside and held a 46-37 rebounding edge. They also had 27 assists.

The Magic bench, which had been playing well this season, was 3 for 15 from the field.

The game featured several momentum shifts in the first three quarters.

The Bulls briefly opened a 17-point lead early in the third before three straight Magic 3-pointers pulled them within 62-54.

That came after Chicago built a 10-point lead at halftime.

The Bulls made their early run even though Rose was held scoreless in the second quarter. Kyle Korver picked up the slack with nine points and Boozer added eight, including a jumper at the halftime horn.

"They just play hard," Howard said of the Bulls. "Everybody did what they have to do. Guys came off the bench. They know what they had to do in the game. They didn't stay outside of their boundaries. ... We've got to be the same way."

Rose got off to a strong start with 12 first-quarter points.

The Magic jumped out to a 10-2 lead, prompting a quick Bulls timeout. But Chicago responded with a spurt of its own that included six straight points by Rose to tie it at 17.

Orlando regained its footing, outscoring the Bulls 10-9 the rest of the quarter thanks to six points by Howard, who was 6 for 8 in the period with 14 points and five rebounds.

"We have to understand what our roles are on this team. We have to understand what type of effort it's going to take every night for us to be a good team," Magic guard Chris Duhon said. "And right now we have to decide what type of team we want to be."

With such a tough schedule on tap, Thibodeau said the Bulls won't put too much stock in Friday's outcome or dwell on what's ahead.

"I think if you start looking at all the other stuff that's going on, you become distracted and it takes away from your preparation," he said. "You're seeing that there's a lot of great games out there. ... You just have to keep fighting and find a way to win. That's what it's coming down to."

Notes: Bulls G Richard Hamilton suited up but did not play with a sore left groin. ... Magic swingman Quentin Richardson was inactive, recovering from a chemical burn on his ankle after a self-treatment mishap in which he iced his sore ankle with Icy Hot and then applied ice to it. Rookie G DeAndre Liggins also didn't dress after having an allergic reaction to shellfish.

Kris Humphries Injuries Shoulder, Prognosis Troubling

Here's some good news for Kris Humphries: the reality star/power forward won't be getting booed in Boston tomorrow night.

The bruising Nets starter sat out yesterday's game against the Nets due to a sore shoulder, and coach Avery Johnson says an MRI is scheduled for Kim Kardashian's ex, who won't even accompany the team to Beantown this week.

Picture of Kris Humphries

"Hopefully we'll get some good news," Johnson said. "It's not looking good right now because he barely can move his shoulder, so again we'll have to hope and pray it's nothing serious."

Following a season-opening victory, New Jersey has dropped five straight. Humphries is averaging 12.4 points an 10 rebounds per game in the early going, hearing boos everywhere he goes on the road.

Things aren't much better in Kris' personal life, as E! aired the Kourtney and Kim Take New York episode this week in which Humphries gets into trouble by questioning Jonathan Cheban's sexual orientation.

Wade, James hold off Timberwolves (AP)

MINNEAPOLIS ? Dwyane Wade wasn't about to let the Minnesota Timberwolves spoil LeBron James' birthday.

Wade hit a jumper from the wing, then scored on an inbounds pass from James with 4.6 seconds to play to lift the undefeated Heat to a 103-101 victory over the Wolves on Friday night.

Playing on a sore foot, Wade finished with 19 points, while James had 34 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds on his 27th birthday.

Ricky Rubio had 12 points, 12 assists and six rebounds, and Kevin Love had 25 points and 12 boards for the Timberwolves, who led 100-99 with 55 seconds to play.

But Wade hit a jumper and then lost Rubio on an inbounds play to make the winning bucket, one game after beating the Charlotte Bobcats with a last-second shot.

It was a crushing defeat for the upstart Wolves, who had the mighty Heat on the ropes all fourth quarter thanks to Rubio's brilliance. The Spanish rookie fed open teammates for easy buckets and hit a 3-pointer with 2:28 to play that gave them a 98-94 lead.

But James scored on a crucial three-point play and Anthony Tolliver missed two key free throws in the final minute to give Wade a chance to steal it.

Anthony Randolph had 14 points and Wayne Ellington added 11 off the bench for Minnesota.

Norris Cole scored 12 for the Heat.

It was a thrilling back-and-forth between a star-studded team that counts a loss in the NBA finals as a failure and the young up-and-comers who had lost 17 straight games.

Playing without veteran guard J.J. Barea, who tormented the Heat in the finals with Dallas, because of a strained right hamstring, the Wolves ripped off an 11-0 run in the final period for an 88-83 lead with 7:20 to play.

Chris Bosh kept the Heat in it with some sharp shooting, hitting jumper after jumper just over Love's out-stretched hand.

James turned 27 on Friday, and he said earlier in the day he always plays with a little extra juice on his birthday and the numbers support that. He entered the game averaging 35.3 points, 7.8 rebounds and 5.0 assists in four previous birthday games.

True to form, he scored 15 points in the first quarter, and the Heat flustered the young Wolves into six turnovers and 39 percent shooting. Cole then scored six of the Heat's first eight points in the second quarter for a 39-26 lead, and it looked like Miami was pulling away.

But Rubio, Randolph and Ellington spearheaded a 14-0 run to put the Wolves back in front. Criticized for his shooting before coming to the NBA, Rubio hit an open jumper and added a three-point play for a 49-45 lead. Then he threw an alley-oop pass high over the rim that Randolph threw down, sending the packed Target Center crowd into a frenzy.

Then James turned the third quarter into a one-man dunk contest, soaring through the air for three straight that put the Heat back in control. He threw down a windmill, a baseline lob from Cole and a final one-handed hammer for a 78-72 lead.

NOTES: The Wolves have now sold out both home games, the first time they've sold out two in a row to start a season since 1991-92. It's their first consecutive sellouts since 2003-04, when they went to the Western Conference finals. ... Timberwolves G Malcolm Lee will miss the next six weeks after having surgery on Friday to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee. It's the same knee that was bothering Lee in May, but the team said it was a new injury. ... Heat G/F Mike Miller (hernia) said he is getting close to returning.
